The Unique Alpine Ballista is a rare and desirable sniper rifle that comes with a unique design. This design can interchange between different barrels (not included) that are chambered in different calibers, which gives shooters the option to shoot different calibers. These rifles are known for their high accuracy and precision at long distances.

The USSOCOM Precision Sniper Rifle (PSR) program, initiated in 2009, sought bidders to supply a modular sniper rifle capable of engaging targets effectively out to 1,500 yards. The rifle had to meet a stringent accuracy standard of 1 minute of angle (MOA) for a 10-round group at that distance and offer the ability to switch calibers in the field. Although no upper caliber limit was specified, the .338 Lapua round became the go-to choice for all the manufacturers who submitted contenders. Major players like Accuracy International, Barrett, Remington, and Sako all entered the competition. FNH USA, in partnership with a relatively obscure German company, developed the Ballista as its entry. Although it was ultimately edged out by Remington, this loss led to a valuable gain for the civilian market. The Ballista, a fully developed, multi-caliber sniper rifle designed for special forces, is now available for commercial purchase. While military procurement can sometimes be associated with excessive spending, in this case, the Ballista offers a solid price-to-performance ratio.

Unique Alpine, based in Bavaria, manufactures the TPG-1 bolt-action rifle, which served as the foundation for the Ballista. Though an excellent rifle, the TPG-1 wasn't fully developed to meet the PSR program's requirements for size, weight, and modularity. To address this, FNH USA’s teams in South Carolina and Virginia worked to enhance the design. The result is the Ballista, a product of this collaboration, which is manufactured in Europe and distributed in the U.S. by FNH USA’s commercial division.
