Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
United States Fire Arms Manufacturing Company, Inc. (USFA) was a distinguished American firearms manufacturer based in Hartford, Connecticut, founded in 1993 by Douglas Donnelly under the name United States Patent Fire Arms Manufacturing Company (USPFA). Following a legal dispute with Colt's Manufacturing Company over the use of the word “Patent,” which closely resembled Colt’s historic corporate name, Colt’s Patent Fire Arms Manufacturing Company, the firm shortened its name to United States Fire-Arms Manufacturing Company (USFA) in the late 1990s. From its founding in 1993 until it ceased producing single-action revolvers around 2011, USFA specialized in high-quality single-action firearms, most notably faithful modern interpretations of the Colt Single Action Army (SAA), and also produced historically inspired versions of other classic designs. In its early years, many guns were assembled in Hartford using imported components before the company evolved to manufacture the majority of parts in-house using modern CNC machining, reflecting a move toward truly American-made production. USFA’s operations were headquartered in the historic East Armory building—familiarly known as “Under the Blue Dome”—in the original Colt Armory complex, a site deeply associated with American firearms history where Colt produced many legendary arms in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

It was also the last firearms manufacturer operating in the Colt Armory complex before closing its revolver production. The company maintained an Old Armory Custom Shop, offering bespoke craftsmanship with traditional techniques such as hand-engraved artwork, gold inlay, damascening, charcoal case hardening, and fine plating. USFA guns were widely respected for their craftsmanship, precision, and adherence to original Colt designs. Their Single Action Army replicas, in particular, captured the historical detail and functionality of the originals, resonating with collectors and firearms enthusiasts.
