Bryant Ridge Co. is pleased to present this BREATHTAKING double-action Snake Series revolver for a penny-start auction; this is the Colt King Cobra!
This example remains New Old Stock, showing no evidence of consumer use or handling whatsoever.
The Colt King Cobra in factory bright stainless, often referred to as “Ultimate Stainless,” is among the rarest variants of the model, produced only briefly. Unlike the more common satin stainless and blued versions, these highly polished examples were made in limited numbers, making them exceptionally desirable among Colt collectors. Their rarity, coupled with the King Cobra’s reputation for strength, precision, and magnum performance, has elevated these revolvers to a prized status within the “Snake Gun” lineage—coveted both as functional masterpieces and as standout investment-grade collectibles.

Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Colt King Cobra, introduced in 1986, marked a pivotal moment in Colt’s revolver lineage and the firearms industry as a whole. As stainless steel revolvers became increasingly popular with shooters through the early 1980s, Colt responded by upgrading the Trooper Mark V into a stainless-steel powerhouse with a full underlug barrel shroud. This reimagined design became the King Cobra—a revolver that combined Colt’s legendary craftsmanship with modern materials and aesthetics. For the first time in the company’s history, Colt released a new model initially in stainless steel before offering a blued version a year later, signaling a shift in both market demand and production philosophy. The King Cobra’s introduction also continued Colt’s tradition of naming its revolvers after snakes, and for the first time ever, the barrel featured an engraved cobra head, further distinguishing it from its predecessors. Built on the same durable "V" frame as the Trooper Mark V, it was chambered for the powerful .357 Magnum cartridge and was engineered for continuous use with Magnum loads—an impressive testament to its strength and endurance. The King Cobra was offered in a variety of barrel lengths—2½", 3", 4", 6", and 8"—and featured finishes ranging from satin stainless and bright polish stainless to rich Colt Royal Blue. Its design blended both form and function, boasting red-insert front sights, white-outlined adjustable rear sights, and factory grips that ranged from Pachmayr "Gripper" rubber stocks to finely checkered walnut with Colt medallions. In 1997, Colt unveiled the Enhanced King Cobra, factory drilled and tapped for optics, with an enlarged cylinder release and optional ported barrel for recoil reduction—enhancements that reflected Colt’s continued innovation. Despite its short and turbulent production run—initially from 1986 to 1992, then briefly revived from 1994 to 1998—the King Cobra remains one of the strongest and most distinctive revolvers ever built by Colt. Today, it stands as a symbol of the company’s late-20th-century craftsmanship, bridging the gap between classic Colt heritage and modern revolver design, and continues to be highly prized among collectors and shooters alike.
