Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Walther PPQ is a modern, striker-fired service pistol introduced in the early 2010s as Walther’s follow-up to the successful P99/PP-series—designed to compete in the same market as other polymer, striker-fired duty pistols while emphasizing ergonomics and trigger quality. It quickly gained praise for blending straightforward controls with a design that feels deliberately tuned for fast, accurate shooting. Its standout feature is the trigger: a short, tactile take-up with a clean, relatively light break and a very short reset, which many shooters find makes fast, accurate follow-up shots easier than on many competitors. The grip ergonomics are another strong point—Walther shaped the grip and backstrap to be natural for a wide range of hand sizes, and slide serrations/controls are well placed for manipulation. The PPQ also uses a reversible magazine release and straightforward, low-profile sights, keeping the manual-of-arms simple for both new and experienced shooters. Practically, the PPQ is well suited for duty, concealed carry, and range use: it’s accurate, reliable when fed quality ammunition, and enjoyable to shoot because of that trigger/ergonomics combo. Over its production life Walther offered multiple sizes (full-size and compact) and calibers, plus limited variants; if you’re choosing one, consider grip size and intended role (carry vs duty vs range) and look for the compact models for easier concealment or the full-size for a longer sight radius and higher capacity.
