Item Description

Bryant Ridge Co. is pleased to present this awesome lever-action rifle today for a penny-start auction; this is the Winchester 94 Alberta Diamond Jubilee!

The Winchester Model 94 “Alberta Diamond Jubilee” is a factory commemorative produced to mark Alberta’s Diamond Jubilee, finished as a presentation-grade Model 94 with decorative engraving, gilding, and high-grade walnut furniture. This particular commemorative is chambered in .38–55 Winchester, offering the classic lever-action handling and single-shot feel that collectors and traditional hunters appreciate, but dressed for display rather than hard field duty. Well-preserved examples retaining original finish, engraving, and paperwork are the most desirable, since the combination of commemorative provenance and original condition drives collector interest.

The owner states that this example remains New Old Stock, and we see no evidence to indicate otherwise.

Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Winchester Model 94 “Alberta Diamond Jubilee” is a factory commemorative created to mark Alberta’s Diamond Jubilee (the province’s 60th anniversary in 1965), and it represents one of Winchester’s mid-20th century efforts to blend functional hunting rifles with presentation-grade finishes. Built on the tried-and-true Model 94 short-action lever platform, the carbine preserves the straightforward, fast-handling mechanics that made the 94 so popular while dressing the rifle in special trim intended for collectors, gift buyers, and anyone wanting a rifle that tells a regional or historical story. Visually and materially the commemorative examples are set apart from standard 94s by decorative engraving or gilding on the receiver, higher-grade walnut furniture, and careful attention to finish. This particular variant is chambered in .38–55 Winchester, a somewhat less common choice for the Model 94 (which is often associated with .30–30), and was typically finished with a roughly 20" carbine barrel, checkered stock, and presentation touches such as gold wash or scenic engraving that reference the Alberta theme. Many examples were also issued with factory paperwork and fitted boxes, which greatly enhances their appeal to today’s collectors. Ballistically, the .38–55 Winchester is a classic, moderate-velocity cartridge that pairs well with the 94’s carbine handling. It offers good sectional density and manageable recoil with heavy, well-constructed bullets—suitable for medium game at typical lever-gun ranges and favored by shooters who appreciate old-school cartridges for their track record and smooth shooting characteristics. If you plan to shoot an original commemorative, confirm the rifle’s bore condition and have a qualified gunsmith inspect the action and headspace; older rifles and commemoratives sometimes require careful ammunition selection or light maintenance to be safely used. In terms of rarity and market interest, the Alberta Diamond Jubilee guns were produced in a limited commemorative run, so complete, unmodified examples with original finish, engraving, and packaging are the most desirable. Collector value is driven primarily by condition (finish, wood quality, bore), originality (unrestored metal and stock, correct markings), and the presence of original box and paperwork. Because these carbines were intended as presentation pieces rather than hardened field guns, many surviving examples have been preserved well—making genuinely untouched rifles relatively scarce and sought after by regional and Winchester collectors. Overall, the Winchester 94 Alberta Diamond Jubilee carbine occupies a comfortable middle ground between a usable .22-century lever rifle and a historical presentation piece. It is equally at home in a carefully curated collection as it is on the range for light shooting, provided the owner verifies mechanical condition and selects appropriate ammo. For buyers and sellers alike, documenting originality and condition—photographing engraving, serials, and any factory markings or paperwork—will do the most to preserve the rifle’s collectible value and tell its story.
