Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Winchester Model 72 is a bolt-action, .22 caliber rimfire rifle introduced by the Winchester Repeating Arms Company in 1938. It is chambered to fire .22 Short, .22 Long, or .22 Long Rifle cartridges interchangeably, and comes with a 25-inch barrel and a tubular magazine. The Model 72 features a traditional walnut stock and a reliable bolt-action design, making it popular for recreational plinking, target shooting, and small-game hunting. Production of the original Model 72 was paused during World War II as Winchester shifted resources to military manufacturing, and resumed after the war. In 1949, the design was updated and redesignated the Model 72A, which included improvements such as a slightly swept-back bolt handle. In mid-1954, grooves were added to the top of the receiver on 72A rifles to allow scope mounts. Approximately 161,000 rifles in both the Model 72 and 72A were manufactured.
