Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Winchester Model 72A is a classic .22 caliber bolt-action rifle that showcases Winchester’s mid-20th-century craftsmanship and versatility. Produced from 1949 to 1959, the 72A was chambered for .22 Short, Long, and Long Rifle cartridges, making it an adaptable choice for target shooting, small game hunting, and plinking. This particular example features a 25-inch blued barrel paired with a smooth walnut stock, giving it a timeless, elegant appearance while maintaining the durability and balance expected of a quality rimfire rifle. Its dovetail blade front sight and adjustable rear aperture allow for precise iron sight shooting, while the addition of a Simmons 3-9x32 scope demonstrates the rifle’s adaptability to modern optics. The swept-back bolt handle, an improvement over the original Model 72, enhances the smooth cycling and ergonomics of the action. The Model 72A employs a tube-fed magazine capable of holding up to 14 rounds of .22 LR, loaded via a loading rod inserted through the tube magazine. From mid-1954 onward, the receiver was grooved to accept Weaver-style tip-off scope mounts, reflecting Winchester’s attention to evolving shooter preferences. Constructed from steel and solid walnut, the rifle combines traditional materials with practical design features, including a two-position safety and simple yet effective iron sights. While relatively small in caliber, the 72A remains appreciated for its balance, accuracy, and handling, offering both a functional firearm for plinking and small-game hunting, as well as a collectible piece that reflects Winchester’s storied history in rimfire rifles.

We gladly offer a 3 day unfired inspection policy from the time that the firearm is delivered to your FFL. Refunds are available for all qualifying orders.
