Item Description

Bryant Ridge Co. is pleased to present this Winchester Model 97 pump-action shotgun for a penny-start auction! This example is non-functional and is intended to be a parts gun!

Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Winchester Model 1897 in 12 gauge with a 30-inch barrel represents one of the most iconic pump-action shotguns of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Designed by John Moses Browning and introduced in 1897, the Model 97 was the first truly successful pump-action shotgun and became widely used for both sport and service. The long 30-inch barrel on this example reflects its original purpose as a sporting model, intended for bird hunting, trap shooting, and other applications where a longer sighting plane and tighter shot patterns were desirable. Its exposed hammer, robust steel receiver, and tubular magazine gave the shotgun a distinctive appearance and made it instantly recognizable among enthusiasts and collectors. Although this particular piece is a non-functional parts gun, it still carries significant historical and collector interest. More than one million Model 97s were produced before Winchester discontinued the design in 1957, and many saw hard use in the field and in combat, particularly during World War I and World War II in shorter riot and trench gun configurations. Even as a non-firing example, a long-barreled sporting version like this provides a tangible connection to the era when the Model 97 was regarded as cutting-edge firearm technology. Its 12 gauge chambering, 30-inch barrel, and classic Winchester styling embody the durability and craftsmanship that made the Model 97 a trusted companion for hunters and sportsmen for over half a century.
