Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Winchester Model 1890 Second Takedown Model represents one of the most refined and desirable variants of this iconic pump-action rimfire rifle, combining John M. Browning’s proven design with improved practicality and user convenience. Introduced in 1893, the Second Model Takedown replaced the more complex and less durable First Model takedown system with a simpler, stronger interrupted-thread takedown mechanism, allowing the rifle to be quickly separated into barrel and receiver assemblies without tools for easy transport, storage, and cleaning. Like other Model 1890s, it was a slide-action .22 rimfire rifle produced in dedicated chamberings—.22 Short, .22 Long, .22 Long Rifle, or .22 Winchester Rimfire—with each rifle marked for a specific cartridge, ensuring reliable feeding and optimal accuracy. The Second Takedown Model retained the 1890’s solid steel receiver, smooth pump action, and tubular magazine, while typically featuring a 24-inch barrel available in round or octagonal profiles, paired with a well-fitted walnut stock and grooved fore-end. Fit and finish were excellent, with deep bluing, crisp machining, and optional upgrades such as deluxe wood, special sights, or nickel finishes available by special order. Highly popular with small-game hunters, gallery shooters, and traveling sportsmen, the Second Takedown Model remained in production until the end of Model 1890 manufacturing in 1932. Today, it is especially prized by collectors for its mechanical improvements, elegant simplicity, and historical importance, representing the most practical and mature expression of Winchester’s legendary Model 1890 pump-action rimfire rifle.
Return Policy:
We gladly offer a 3-day unfired inspection policy from the time that the firearm is delivered to your FFL. Refunds are available for all qualifying orders.
