Designed by the genius John Moses Browning, the Winchester Model 1897 stands as one of the most celebrated pump-action shotguns in world history. Evolved from the earlier Model 1893, the '97 introduced a stronger receiver designed specifically for smokeless powder shells, an iconic exposed hammer action, and a unique mechanism that allowed rapid slam-firing. Serving w/ distinction in both World Wars as well as in law enforcement and the civilian sporting realm, the Model 1897 set the benchmark for American pump-action shotgun design.
This specific example is an authentic 1914-manufactured Winchester Model 1897 Takedown bearing matching serial numbers 619884 ("E" frame prefix) on both the receiver underside and barrel assembly extension. Chambered in 12 Gauge, it features a 30-inch plain steel barrel choked Full, exposed hammer action, ribbed walnut forend, and a smooth walnut buttstock fitted w/ its original Winchester hard rubber buttplate. Preserved in fine vintage condition, the metal surfaces display a handsome, honest combination of original factory bluing and smooth natural patina, complemented by solid walnut furniture, a clean bright bore, and smooth mechanical cycling w/ tight takedown lockup.
