Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
Released in 1910, the Fox Sterlingworth was designed by Ansley H. Fox as a rugged, no-nonsense "working man’s bird gun". While legendary sportsmen like President Theodore Roosevelt famously celebrated the premium custom-made, highly ornate FE-grade Fox shotguns, Fox wanted to build an affordable, dependable side-by-side that every everyday American hunter could afford. The Sterlingworth achieved this by utilizing the same rock-solid internal boxlock action, robust steel barrels, and precise attention to fit and mechanical feel found on top-shelf premium models. By completely skipping the expensive hand-engraved artwork and fancy checkering, the gun remained highly affordable without sacrificing structural integrity or field performance. Built to tackle grouse, quail, or waterfowl across varied terrain, it was produced in 12, 16, and 20 gauge frames with barrel lengths spanning from 26 to 32 inches. It's simple yet stout American walnut stock featured a perfectly subtle grip curve engineered to automatically bring the shooter's eye straight down the rib for quick, natural target acquisition. Today, vintage collectors deeply prize these clean, honest firearms because they represent a golden era of American craftsmanship, serving as living stories handed down through generations.
