Markings: Standard / the proof marks are located in a row on the flat, right side of the receiver block directly above the trigger guard, consisting of two consecutive eagles over the number 63 followed by an unnumbered "droop-wing" eagle stamp. Additionally, the manufacturer's "S/42" code is located on the top of the folding toggle link mechanism directly behind the rear sight

The 1938 S/42 Mauser Luger P.08 is a highly collectible German military sidearm produced by Mauser during the pre-World War II rearmament period. Chambered in 9x19mm Parabellum, it features Georg Luger's renowned toggle-lock, short-recoil operating system, a 4-inch barrel, fixed sights, and an 8-round detachable magazine. The "S/42" manufacturer code, used by Mauser from 1934 through 1939, appears on the chamber area and identifies the pistol as a wartime military contract firearm. Pistols produced in 1938 exhibit the exceptional machining, precision fitting, and high-quality salt-blued finish that characterized Mauser's pre-war production before wartime manufacturing became increasingly simplified. These pistols bear the appropriate German military Waffenamt acceptance proofs and were issued to the Wehrmacht during the years leading up to and throughout the early stages of World War II. Original examples with matching serial numbers, correct magazines, original finish, and intact military markings are among the most desirable military Lugers on the collector market. Combining outstanding craftsmanship, mechanical innovation, and immense historical significance, the 1938 S/42 Mauser Luger P.08 remains one of the most iconic and sought-after military pistols ever produced.
