Bryant Ridge Co. is pleased to present this RARE double-action revolver today for a penny-start auction; this is the Colt Police Positive “Pequeno” Model!
The Colt Police Positive “Pequeno” Model is an exceptionally scarce and intriguing variation of the classic Colt Police Positive, produced by Colt's Manufacturing Company as a compact, scaled-down version intended for discreet carry and specialized markets. According to The Book of Colt Firearms by R.L. Wilson and E. L. Sutherland (page 377), these “Pequeno” models were considered “2nd Quality” guns and were marketed primarily to South America, Central America, and the Philippines, with very few remaining in the United States. Despite this designation, these revolvers exhibit the same level of craftsmanship, fit, and finish that collectors expect from Colt firearms of the era. Built on Colt’s reliable small-frame design and typically chambered in lighter calibers, the Pequeno retains the smooth action and practical functionality of the standard Police Positive, while its limited production, export focus, and unique marking make it highly desirable among advanced Colt collectors.

Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Colt Police Positive “Pequeño” Model is an exceptionally scarce and fascinating variation of the classic Colt Police Positive, produced by Colt's Manufacturing Company during the early 20th century. Built on Colt’s small-frame double-action platform, the Police Positive was widely known for its reliability, smooth action, and practical size for both law enforcement and civilian use. The “Pequeño” designation—Spanish for “small”—is associated with special production runs intended primarily for export markets, setting these revolvers apart from standard domestic offerings. While mechanically similar to other Police Positive revolvers, these examples often carry unique markings and subtle distinctions that reflect their specialized distribution and limited production. According to The Book of Colt Firearms by R.L. Wilson and E. L. Sutherland (page 377), the “Pequeño” models were categorized as “2nd Quality” firearms and were marketed primarily to South America, Central America, and the Philippines, with relatively few remaining in the United States. Despite this classification, surviving examples demonstrate the same level of craftsmanship, fit, and finish that Colt was known for during this period, suggesting that the “2nd Quality” designation may have been more of a marketing distinction than a reflection of actual build quality.

These revolvers retain the smooth trigger pull, solid lockup, and dependable performance that define Colt’s early double-action designs. From a collector’s standpoint, the Colt Police Positive “Pequeño” is highly desirable due to its rarity, export history, and unique place within Colt’s production lineage. Because the majority were shipped overseas, examples that remain in the United States are particularly scarce, especially in high condition or with original configuration intact. The combination of limited availability, distinctive markings, and historical context makes these revolvers especially appealing to advanced Colt collectors seeking uncommon variations. As interest in early Colt revolvers continues to grow, the “Pequeño” model stands out as a niche yet significant piece that offers both historical intrigue and strong collector value.
