The Savage Model 99 is a hammerless lever-action rifle produced by Savage Arms from 1899 to 1997, and it is widely considered one of the most innovative American sporting rifles ever made. It uses a rotary spool magazine instead of a tubular magazine, which allowed it to safely use pointed spitzer bullets long before most lever guns could, and it feeds from an internal 5-round rotating magazine with a mechanical round counter in many models.
