Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
Hailed by General George S. Patton Jr. as "the greatest battle implement ever devised," the M1 Garand stood as the decisive infantry arm of the Allied victory throughout World War II and the Korean War. Designed by John Cantius Garand and standardized in 1936, the M1 Garand gave American forces an unmatched semi-automatic advantage on the battlefield over axis adversaries equipped with standard bolt-action rifles. This extraordinary rifle bears low six-digit serial number 322807, verifying manufacture at the historic Springfield Armory in 1941—mere months prior to the attack on Pearl Harbor and the United States' formal entry into World War II. Featuring a highly desirable pre-war/early-war curved-contour receiver heel, period-correct "-2 SA" drawing-numbered bolt (D28287-2SA), and classic military ordnance features, this rifle exudes authentic combat heritage and untouchable historical significance.
This magnificent example presents in exceptional collector-grade military surplus condition throughout. It features the standard 24-inch military barrel, original winged front sight, calibrated rear sight, forged gas cylinder with intact bayonet lug, and a handsome dark American walnut military stock bearing a crisp circled "P" firing proof at the wrist. The military gray-green parkerized finish presents in wonderful condition, displaying honest, gentle service character, clean steel surfaces, and razor-sharp receiver heel stampings. The walnut furniture remains robust and tight with beautiful deep grain, minimal handling character, and tight wood-to-metal fit. Mechanically, the action cycles with textbook Garand fluidity, the operating rod moves without hitch, the en-bloc clip latch and follower operate positively, and the 24-inch bore is bright with strong, crisp rifling throughout. Complete with an authentic OD green military web sling and a genuine 1944-dated canvas muzzle cover by E.A. Brown Mfg. Co., this pre-Pearl Harbor 1941 Springfield M1 Garand represents a premier cornerstone acquisition for any serious WWII or U.S. martial arms collection.
