Markings: Standard / The top of the barrel is marked with the "ASTRA" logo. The top of the top strap is marked "UNCETA Y COMPAÑIA GUERNICA ESPAÑA". The left side of the frame is marked with proof marks and the date code "N". The right side of the slide is marked with the serial number "557373". The right side of the frame is also marked with serial number "557373", alongside the "WaA251" Waffenamt proof mark.

Following the 1940 capitulation of France, Germany gained direct land access to Spain, prompting the Wehrmacht to establish an inspection office in the border town of Hendaye to procure Spanish firearms—a procurement heavily motivated by the German Condor Legion’s highly positive experiences field-testing Astra pistols during the Spanish Civil War. Among the very first acquisitions was the compact Astra Model 300, a blowback-operated pocket handgun that had already proven its reliability in Spain with the Dirección General de Prisiones (prison system) and the Armada Española (Spanish Navy). While the larger Astra 400 service pistol was chambered in the incompatible Spanish 9mm Largo round, the smaller Astra 300 became highly favored by the German Luftwaffe as a secondary defensive sidearm because it utilized standard, readily available German logistics ammunition, issued in both 9mm Kurz (.380 ACP) with a 6-round capacity and 7.65mm Browning (.32 ACP) with a 7-round capacity. Between 1941 and July 21, 1944, Spain successfully delivered exactly 85,390 units of the Astra 300 across the French border to Hendaye, where German inspectors stamped the vast majority of the 63,000 units chambered in 9mm Kurz with the WaA251 Waffenamt proof mark, while accepting the remaining 22,390 units in 7.65mm Browning without military proofs. Germany's satisfaction with this reliable platform directly inspired the 1943 development of the Astra 600 in 9mm Luger; and though Allied advances in France eventually choked off the overland shipping routes to Germany in late 1944, final assembly of the Model 300 stretched into 1946, totaling exactly 153,085 units and securing its legacy as one of the most widely utilized and robust foreign-vetted pocket pistols of the Axis war effort.
