The Colt Woodsman Sport is a variant of Colt’s legendary Woodsman .22 LR semi-automatic pistol, produced primarily in the Second and Third Series production eras (roughly late 1940s through the 1970s). It was designed as a more versatile, field-oriented version of the target-focused Woodsman, bridging the gap between precision shooting and practical outdoor use. Chambered in .22 Long Rifle, the Woodsman Sport typically features a 4.5-inch barrel, fixed or simplified sights (depending on series), and Colt’s signature blowback-operated, single-action action with a crisp trigger pull that contributed heavily to its reputation for accuracy. Unlike the heavier “Target” models with longer barrels and fully adjustable sights, the Sport model was intended for plinking, small-game hunting, and general field carry, offering a lighter, more balanced feel while still maintaining excellent inherent accuracy.
