The 1944 Colt 1911A1 U.S. Army is a historically significant example of America's iconic service pistol, produced during the height of World War II, when Colt manufactured large quantities of the M1911A1 for the U.S. military. Chambered in .45 ACP, the pistol retains the proven single-action, recoil-operated design originally developed by John Moses Browning, featuring a 5-inch barrel, a 7-round detachable magazine, and rugged forged-steel construction. By 1944, Colt production incorporated the wartime changes and simplified manufacturing methods necessary to meet military demand while maintaining the reliability and durability expected from the M1911A1 platform.

This wartime Colt features the defining M1911A1 improvements adopted in the 1920s, including a short trigger, arched mainspring housing, relief cuts behind the trigger, redesigned front sight, and extended grip safety spur for improved handling. Original examples from 1944 are highly desirable among collectors, particularly those retaining correct military markings, inspector acceptance stamps, finish, and original components. Having served with American forces during the final years of World War II, the Colt 1911A1 represents an important piece of U.S. military history and remains one of the most recognizable and collectible service pistols ever produced.
