Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Walther PP (Polizeipistole) is a blowback-operated semi-automatic pistol developed by German arms manufacturer Carl Walther GmbH Sportwaffen. Introduced in 1929 as a full-size duty model for European police and administrative use, it became one of the world's first commercially successful double-action semi-automatic pistols. The platform features an exposed hammer, a traditional double-action/single-action trigger mechanism, a single-column magazine, and a fixed barrel that also serves as the guide rod for the recoil spring. The PP was produced in multiple calibers, most commonly 7.65×17mm Browning (.32 ACP), but also in 9mm Kurz (.380 ACP), .22 LR, and 6.35mm (.25 ACP).

Historically, the pistol was manufactured by Walther in Germany and under license by Manurhin in France, before Walther Arms, Inc. announced a formal multi-year suspension of production for the legacy PP line to undergo a thorough modernization and reengineering program. Highly influential and widely copied, the original Walther PP design provided the blueprint for numerous subsequent firearms, including the Soviet Makarov, the Hungarian FEG PA-63, and the Polish P-64. Renowned for its reliability and balanced ergonomics, the PP was heavily issued during World War II to the German military, including the Luftwaffe, as well as to uniformed and plainclothes police forces.
