Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Walther PP series is a line of blowback-operated semi-automatic pistols developed by the German arms manufacturer Carl Walther GmbH Sportwaffen. The platform features an exposed hammer, a traditional double-action trigger mechanism, a single-column magazine, and a fixed barrel that also acts as the guide rod for the recoil spring. The series includes the Walther PP, PPK, PPK/S, and PPK/E models, while the smaller Walther TPH pocket pistol, introduced in 1971, shares a highly similar double-action manual of arms. Historically, various PP series models have been manufactured in Germany, France, and the United States, including production by Walther in Germany, under license by Manurhin in France, Interarms in Virginia, and Smith & Wesson in Maine. From 2018 until a multi-year production suspension announced in late 2025, modern PPK and PPK/S models were built at the factory of US-based subsidiary Walther Arms, Inc. in Fort Smith, Arkansas. 
 
As some of the world's first commercially successful double-action semi-automatic pistols, the PP and PPK became highly influential, inspiring numerous other designs, including the Soviet Makarov, Hungarian FEG PA-63, Polish P-64, American Accu-Tek AT-380 II, and Argentinian Bersa Thunder 380. Renowned with European police and civilians for being reliable and concealable, they were also heavily issued during World War II to the German military, including the Luftwaffe, the uniformed Ordnungspolizei, and plainclothes Kriminalpolizei detectives.
