Introduced in 1948 alongside its long-action sibling (the Model 721), the Remington Model 722 holds a monumental place in modern firearms history as the direct mechanical predecessor to the legendary Remington Model 700. Designed by Mike Walker, the 722 revolutionized bolt-action manufacturing with its rigid cylindrical receiver, recessed bolt face ("three rings of steel"), rapid lock time, and crisp adjustable trigger mechanism. Chambered in iconic medium-bore cartridges like the popular .300 Savage, early post-WWII Model 722 rifles earned an outstanding reputation among deer and big game hunters for their rugged reliability and benchrest-quality inherent accuracy.

This exact rifle, serial number 137330, was manufactured at Remington's Ilion, New York facility in 1949 (proven by the barrel date code and serial block). Chambered in the sweet-shooting, flat-trajectory .300 Savage caliber, it features a 24-inch blued tapered steel barrel, factory iron sights, smooth American walnut stock with sling swivels, metal buttplate, and factory drilled-and-tapped receiver provisions for optics mounting. Presenting in honest original vintage condition throughout with clean barrel bluing, warm wood grain finish, smooth bolt travel, tight lockup, and a bright clear bore, this 1949 Remington Model 722 .300 Savage is a wonderful piece for vintage big-game hunters, Remington bolt-action collectors, or C&R firearms purists.
