Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Smith & Wesson K-38 Combat Masterpiece, also known as the Pre-Model 15, is a double-action revolver chambered in .38 Special and built on the square-butt target K-frame with five-screw construction. It features a six-shot fluted cylinder with a nominal length of 1.56" and a 4-inch pinned and ribbed barrel marked “.38 S&W Special CT” on the right side. The revolver was offered in both blue and nickel finishes. Sight equipment consists of a 1/8-inch Baughman Quick Draw front sight mounted on a plain ramp base, paired with an adjustable micrometer-click rear sight for precise windage and elevation adjustment. Fire control components include either a .375" or .500" target hammer, and the revolver is fitted with a square-butt frame and diamond walnut grips. Additional features include a six-groove serrated backstrap and forestrap, with a large Smith & Wesson monogram on the sideplate. Early production examples utilized the K-frame serial prefix. The model was manufactured in its Pre-Model 15 configuration circa 1949–1957, after which it was redesignated as the Model 15 and remained in production until 1999.
