The Mosin-Nagant M44 Carbine is one of the most recognizable and historically significant military rifles of the 20th century, developed by the Soviet Union in 1943 as a shortened and more maneuverable version of the longer M91/30 infantry rifle. Chambered in the powerful 7.62×54R cartridge, the M44 features a compact 20.5-inch barrel, a rugged bolt-action design, and a distinctive side-folding cruciform bayonet permanently attached to the rifle, making it ideal for infantry, cavalry, and mechanized troops who required a shorter weapon for close combat and mobility. Produced primarily by Soviet arsenals such as Izhevsk and Tula, with additional production later occurring in other countries, the M44 saw service during the final stages of World War II and continued to serve around the world throughout the Cold War. Known for its extreme durability, simple mechanical design, and ability to function in harsh conditions, the M44 became one of the most widely distributed military carbines ever produced.
