The Ruger Single-Six is one of the most iconic and successful rimfire single-action revolvers ever produced, introduced by Sturm, Ruger & Co. in 1953 as Ruger’s first single-action revolver and the foundation of the company’s legendary single-action lineup. Designed by William B. Ruger, the Single-Six was inspired by the classic Colt Single Action Army while incorporating modern Ruger engineering, including a rugged investment-cast frame, coil-spring action, and excellent accuracy. Early examples featured the traditional three-screw “Old Model” frame, fixed sights, and a .22 LR chambering, with later models offering adjustable sights and convertible cylinders allowing shooters to fire both .22 LR and .22 Winchester Magnum Rimfire (.22 WMR). Produced with barrel lengths including the popular 5.5-inch configuration, the Single-Six became known for its smooth single-action trigger, balance, reliability, and affordability, making it popular with ranchers, target shooters, outdoorsmen, and collectors. The early 1950s examples are especially significant because they represent Ruger’s first venture into revolver production and the beginning of the company’s enduring single-action legacy.
