The Armi Galesi Mod. 9 is a classic Italian compact semi-automatic pistol produced by Industria Armi Galesi of Brescia, best known for its long line of small “vest pocket” handguns. Introduced around 1950, the Mod. 9 was essentially an updated continuation of Galesi’s earlier Mod. 1930 and Model 6 designs, sharing the same simple blowback operating system and lightweight, compact steel frame. It was chambered in a variety of small calibers—including .22 LR, .25 ACP (6.35mm), and 7.65mm Browning—and was designed primarily for civilian concealed carry and personal defense rather than military use. Mechanically, it is very straightforward: a fixed barrel, recoil-operated blowback action, internal striker or simple firing mechanism depending on variant, and slim single-stack magazine, all packaged into a very small handgun that reflects mid-20th-century European pocket pistol design. While not known for modern ergonomics or high-end reliability by today’s standards, the Mod. 9 is appreciated by collectors for its historical value, elegant Italian machining, and its role in the evolution of compact defensive pistols exported widely during the 1950s–60s.
