Bryant Ridge Co. is pleased to present this scarce lever-action rifle today for a penny-start auction, this is the Marlin Firearms Company Model 336SC “Sporting Carbine."
The Marlin 336SC (Sporting Carbine) chambered in .219 Zipper represents one of the rarest configurations in the 336 family. Produced in a limited production run from 1955 to 1959 (with some references extending to 1960), this variant was built on the same proven Sporting Carbine platform but tailored for the high-velocity .219 Zipper cartridge. Renowned for its solid-top steel receiver and side ejection, it stood out from other lever-action rifles during this period by offering superior scope-mounting options and reliable performance under tough conditions. Built with durability, accuracy, and user-friendly operation in mind, the 336 quickly became a favorite among hunters and shooters nationwide. Over the decades, the platform has evolved into a wide range of configurations to suit various preferences and field applications, while remaining a trusted companion for both seasoned hunters and new shooters alike. Like other 336SC models, it featured a compact 20-inch barrel and a shorter overall length, making it highly maneuverable in the field. While it shared the familiar two-thirds-length magazine tube and classic lever-action design, the .219 Zipper set it apart, offering a fast, flat-shooting option that reflected mid-century interest in high-velocity small-caliber cartridges. Though it never achieved widespread commercial success, the 336SC in .219 Zipper remains a fascinating and rare chapter in the legacy of the 336 platform, highlighting both Marlin’s innovation and the experimental spirit of its era.
