The Smith & Wesson Pre-Model 27 with a 3.5-inch barrel is one of the most elusive and desirable configurations in the entire N-frame lineage, prized for its scarcity, balance, and historical significance. Produced before Smith & Wesson adopted numerical model designations in 1957, these revolvers trace their roots directly to the legendary Registered Magnum era and were built with a level of polish, hand fitting, and craftsmanship that represents the peak of S&W’s classic production. The 3.5" barrel length was produced in comparatively small numbers, often intended for law enforcement or discerning buyers who wanted magnum power in a more compact, fast-handling package. Many were carried extensively, making high-condition examples especially difficult to find today. When combined with the pre-model status, premium finishes, and the iconic short-barrel configuration, a 3.5" Pre-27 stands firmly in the upper tier of Smith & Wesson collecting and is widely regarded as a cornerstone revolver for advanced collectors.

Manufactured by Smith & Wesson on the large N-frame, the Pre-27 was introduced in 1935 as the company's flagship revolver and was the first handgun specifically designed for the then-new .357 Magnum cartridge. Each revolver featured a beautifully polished blue finish, finely checkered top strap and barrel rib to reduce glare, precision adjustable target sights, and expertly fitted walnut stocks that reflected the exceptional craftsmanship of the era. Available in a variety of barrel lengths, the Pre-27 quickly earned a reputation for outstanding accuracy, exceptional durability, and one of the smoothest double-action trigger pulls ever offered on a production revolver.
