Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Smith & Wesson Model 14, also known as the K-38 Target Masterpiece, is one of the finest target revolvers ever produced and has long been regarded as a benchmark for precision revolver shooting. Introduced by Smith & Wesson in 1947 as the K-38 Target Masterpiece and officially designated the Model 14 when model numbers were adopted in 1957, the revolver was built on the medium-size K-frame and chambered in .38 Special. Designed specifically for bullseye competition and target work, the Model 14 featured a six-shot cylinder, a heavy precision barrel—most commonly six inches in length—and fully adjustable micrometer rear sights paired with a Patridge front sight for exceptional sight alignment. The revolver's superbly fitted action provided an extraordinarily smooth double-action pull and a crisp single-action break, characteristics that made it a favorite among competitive shooters and law-enforcement marksmen for decades.

Finished in highly polished blue and typically fitted with checkered walnut target stocks, the Model 14 combined outstanding performance with classic American craftsmanship. The inherent accuracy of the revolver, particularly when used with wadcutter ammunition, allowed it to dominate centerfire bullseye competition throughout much of the twentieth century. In practical use, the Model 14 earned a reputation for remarkable precision, reliability, and refined handling, and many shooters considered it one of the finest .38 Special revolvers ever manufactured. Today, the Smith & Wesson Model 14 remains highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts who appreciate traditional revolver craftsmanship and recognize its importance as one of the most successful target handguns in Smith & Wesson history.
