Manufactured in Elgoibar, Spain by Gabilondo y Cía, the Llama "Especial" (Model XV) is a celebrated scaled-down 1911-style rimfire handgun produced during the golden age of Spanish commercial gunmaking. Engineered to replicate the manual safeties, trigger feel, and overall profile of John Browning's famous Model 1911, the Llama Especial adapts the frame for economical .22 Long Rifle ammunition via a blowback mechanism. Features unique to the "Especial" trim line include a raised, ventilated rib integral to the slide, micro-adjustable target rear sight, functional grip safety, and a frame-mounted thumb safety. Earlier production examples from the Elgoibar manufacturing plant featuring deep factory bluing and gold-medallion wood grips are highly regarded among collectors for their rich hand-finished craftsmanship and classic 1911 practice utility. This specific example is an authentic 1964-production Llama Especial pistol bearing serial number 327241. Verified by its "J1" Spanish Eibar date code stamp, it features a 3 11/16-inch barrel under a ventilated rib slide, micro-adjustable rear sight, and a rich high-polish blued finish across its forged steel frame and slide.
