The Smith & Wesson Model 14-3, also known as the K-38 Masterpiece, is a six-shot, double-action/single-action revolver chambered in .38 Special and built on Smith & Wesson’s medium-size K-frame. The Model 14 traces its roots to the postwar K-38 Masterpiece introduced in 1947 and was given the numerical designation "Model 14" in 1957 when Smith & Wesson adopted model numbers. The 14-3 engineering change, introduced in 1967, represents one of the most desirable versions of the line and was produced throughout much of the 1970s. Most examples feature a 6-inch pinned barrel, fully adjustable micrometer rear sights, a Patridge front sight, deeply blued carbon steel construction, and exceptionally refined trigger work. Some were also equipped with the famous "Three T's" package—target hammer, target trigger, and target stocks—which made them highly regarded competition revolvers.

The Model 14-3 was designed specifically for bullseye and precision target shooting, and many shooters consider it one of the finest target revolvers Smith & Wesson ever produced. The long sight radius, excellent balance, and crisp single-action trigger allow for remarkable accuracy with standard .38 Special ammunition. Although intended as a target gun, some law enforcement agencies authorized or issued Model 14 revolvers because of their precision and reliability.
