The Remington Model 742 Woodsmaster is a premier semi-automatic rifle that was manufactured by Remington Arms from 1960 to 1980. Developed by Remington’s Research & Development team as a refined, gas-operated evolution of the earlier Model 740, it was engineered for hunters who valued rapid follow-up shots without sacrificing power. The rifle features a side-ejection port for reliable cycling and feeds from a standard 4-round detachable box magazine. Over its prolific two-decade production run, approximately 1,497,169 units were built, which includes 113,970 carbine variants and warehouse stock sold into 1981.
