Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
Developed in 1954 in close collaboration with legendary Border Patrol officer Bill Jordan, the Smith & Wesson Combat Magnum (designated as the Model 19 in 1957) revolutionized police handguns by bringing full-power .357 Magnum stopping power to S&W's mid-size K-frame platform. Built around a heat-treated K-frame with a shroud to protect the ejector rod, a 4-inch heavy ribbed barrel pinned to the frame, counterbored cylinder chambers, micro-adjustable target sights, and a Baughman quick-draw front sight, the Model 19 quickly became the definitive duty sidearm for state police agencies, federal agents, and law enforcement officers nationwide. Offering exceptional balance and pointability without the bulk of larger N-frame revolvers, the Model 19 remains an enduring icon of mid-century S&W engineering. The Model 19-3 revision, produced from 1967 to 1977, relocated the rear sight leaf screw and represents the height of classical S&W craftsmanship prior to the elimination of pinned barrels and recessed cylinders in 1982. This magnificent specimen—bearing serial number 4K80834—was manufactured in 1974 during the prime of the Model 19-3 production era. Featuring the ideal 4-inch pinned barrel configuration, it is finished in rich, high-gloss bluing across the frame, cylinder, and barrel. Outfitted with its original pinned barrel, recessed 6-shot cylinder, micro-adjustable rear sight, Baughman front sight blade, serrated Trigger, checkered spur hammer, and factory checkered Goncalo Alves target stocks adorned with S&W medallions, this revolver displays crisp mechanical lockup and excellent overall condition. Complete with its original factory-matching blue two-piece box with end label, owner's manual, warranty service center list, and law enforcement product insert, this 1974 Model 19-3 Combat Magnum is a premier investment-grade collector piece!
