Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
Introduced in 1964 as the modern successor to the legendary Model 12, the Winchester Model 1200 pioneered the use of a four-lug rotary bolt mechanism in a pump-action shotgun. Upon firing, chamber pressure rotates and unlocks the bolt, assisting the shooter in pulling back the forearm for rapid ejection and smooth cycling. Built with a lightweight aluminum alloy receiver, steel barrel with Winchoke interchangeability, and classic American walnut stocks, the Model 1200 offers excellent balance, fast pointability, and enduring field performance for bird hunting and clays.
This specific example is an authentic Winchester Model 1200 12-gauge field shotgun, manufactured in New Haven, CT and bearing serial number L1021627. Configured for field sports, it features a 28-inch ventilated rib barrel chambered for 2 3/4-inch shells, screw-in Winchoke choke system, original blued and anodized finishes, export proof marks, and press-checkered American walnut stocks with a factory rubber recoil pad. The factory metal finishes and walnut stocks display clean vintage condition with honest, minor handling marks from careful use. Mechanically, the rotary action operates buttery-smooth, the lockup is vault-tight, and the 28-inch barrel bore is clean and mirror-bright.
