Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
Conceived in the mid-1950s through a close collaboration between legendary gunwriter Bill Jordan and Smith & Wesson executives, the Model 19 Combat Magnum was engineered as the ultimate law enforcement sidearm. Built on the medium-sized "K" frame architecture, the Model 19 combined the power of the magnum cartridge with a portable, fast-handling profile previously unobtainable in heavy N-frame revolvers. Among all variations, the 2.5-inch snubnose iteration introduced during the Model 19-3 era (1967–1977) achieved iconic status among undercover officers, federal agents, and personal defense enthusiasts. Featuring traditional pinned barrel construction and counterbored ("pinned and recessed") cylinder chambers alongside a fully enclosed ejector rod shroud, late 1970s Model 19-3s represent a high-water mark of traditional Smith & Wesson manufacturing craftsmanship before the transition to simplified production methods.
This magnificent example is an authentic Smith & Wesson Model 19-3 snubnose chambered in .357 Magnum, bearing serial number 12K3028, manufactured in 1977. Finished in brilliant factory high-gloss bluing, it features a 2.5-inch pinned barrel, counterbored 6-shot cylinder, serrated case-hardened hammer and trigger, and factory checkered walnut stocks with silver S&W medallions. The revolver is exceptionally well preserved, with its original two-piece blue factory box displaying a serial-matched end-label ("12K3028"), original factory instruction manual, Ammunition pamphlet, warranty center booklet, unused cleaning rod with brush and mop attachments, sight adjustment screwdriver, and original purchase registration card dated January 17, 1978. The blued finish is mirror-like with razor-sharp rollmarks, timing and lockup are tight, and the 2.5-inch bore is crystal-clear with sharp rifling throughout. A supreme, investment-grade "pinned & recessed" collector package for the serious Smith & Wesson enthusiast.
