Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
Commissioned in 1977 to celebrate the momentous milestone of 125 years of firearm manufacturing (1852–1977), the Smith & Wesson Model 25-3 125th Anniversary Commemorative represents one of the finest, most prestigious N-frame presentation sets ever released by the Springfield armory. Built on S&W's iconic large N-frame with a pinned 6.5-inch barrel, the Model 25-3 was famously produced in .45 Colt, reviving a cherished cartridge in a limited-edition format. This special tribute features gold-filled roll markings along the barrel flats, a deeply engraved commemorative 125 Years seal on the right sideplate, and the revered "Three Ts" target ensemble—a wide-spur checkered target hammer, a wide grooved target trigger showing brilliant color case hardening, and uncheckered, mirror-smooth exhibition Goncalo Alves target stocks inset with gold S&W medallions. Housed within a custom-fitted solid mahogany presentation case complete with the heavy bronze commemorative coin and the dedicated hardbound volume "125 Years with Smith & Wesson" by Roy Jinks, this complete presentation set represents an enduring benchmark in collectible American wheelguns.
This specific example is an authentic Smith & Wesson Model 25-3 double-action target revolver chambered in .45 Colt, bearing low commemorative serial number S&W0696. It retains classic factory commemorative configuration with its 6.5-inch pinned barrel, red ramp front sight blade, micro-click adjustable rear target sight, vibrant color case-hardened target hammer and trigger, and smooth Goncalo Alves target stocks. The factory deep royal blue finish presents in outstanding, near-mint condition throughout, retaining rich mirror reflections, sharp gold inlay within the barrel lettering, and an exceptionally faint cylinder turn line. The smooth Goncalo Alves stocks display dramatic marble and tiger-stripe contrast with sharp factory contours and brilliant gold medallions. Mechanically, the action cycles with Swiss-watch smoothness, cylinder timing and lockup are bank-vault tight, the single-action break is hair-trigger crisp, and the 6.5-inch barrel bore is mirror-bright with razor-sharp rifling throughout. Complete in its original blue-velvet-lined mahogany display case with the bronze commemorative coin and commemorative book, this 25-3 is an investment-grade centerpiece for any advanced S&W collection.
