Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Marlin Model 375 is a lever-action sporting rifle chambered for the powerful .375 Winchester cartridge, designed to provide hunters with a compact yet hard-hitting firearm capable of taking medium- to large-game at moderate ranges. Manufactured by Marlin Firearms during the early 1980s, the rifle was part of Marlin’s Model 336 family and was specifically engineered to handle the increased pressures and ballistic performance of the then-new .375 Winchester cartridge, itself an updated and strengthened version of the older .38-55 Winchester. Externally, the Model 375 closely resembled the traditional Marlin 336, featuring a solid-top receiver, side-ejection system, walnut stock, and a tubular magazine beneath the barrel, but internally it incorporated modifications necessary to safely handle the more powerful cartridge. The rifle typically featured a 20-inch Micro-Groove rifled barrel and held several rounds in the tubular magazine, offering hunters a quick-handling lever gun with considerably more stopping power than standard pistol-caliber lever actions. One of the defining advantages of the Marlin design was its side-ejecting receiver, which made mounting optical sights much easier than on top-ejecting Winchester lever rifles, thereby improving practical accuracy for hunters using scopes. Chambered in .375 Winchester, the rifle delivered significantly more energy than traditional .30-30 Winchester loads and was particularly effective for deer, black bear, wild hogs, and even elk at woods-hunting distances.

In practical use, the Marlin 375 earned praise for its compact handling, rapid follow-up shots, and impressive close-to-medium-range stopping power, while still maintaining the classic balance and smooth cycling associated with Marlin lever-action rifles. Recoil was noticeably heavier than a standard .30-30 but still manageable due to the rifle’s weight and stock design. Although the .375 Winchester cartridge never achieved the widespread popularity manufacturers had hoped for, the rifle developed a loyal following among hunters who appreciated its combination of lever-action speed and big-bore performance. Production numbers were relatively limited compared to more common Marlin models, making surviving examples increasingly sought after by collectors and lever-gun enthusiasts today. The Marlin Model 375 is now regarded as a distinctive and somewhat underrated hunting rifle, admired for its rugged construction, powerful cartridge, and its representation of an era when manufacturers sought to modernize traditional lever-action rifles with stronger cartridges and improved ballistic performance.
