The Ruger Blackhawk stands as an absolute legend among modern single-action revolvers, introduced in 1955 to give shooters a heavy-duty, highly accurate single-action sidearm built to withstand intense magnum pressures. Updated in 1973 as the "New Model Blackhawk," Ruger engineered a patented transfer bar safety mechanism that allowed safe loading of all six chambers while preserving traditional single-action balance and shooting dynamics. The Convertible model stands out for its exceptional versatility, utilizing dual interchangeable factory cylinders to shoot .357 Magnum, .38 Special, or economical 9mm ammunition out of a single handgun.
