The Colt Trooper Mark V was considered superior to earlier models primarily due to its redesigned “V-frame” action, which featured a coil spring system in place of the traditional leaf spring used in earlier Colt revolvers. This resulted in a shorter, smoother, and more consistent trigger pull in both double- and single-action operation, while also improving durability and reducing the need for frequent hand-fitting. The updated internal geometry made the action more robust under sustained use, giving the Mark V a reputation for combining classic Colt feel with a more modern, reliable performance.
