The Colt New Frontier SAA (Single Action Army) is a modern variation of Colt’s legendary Peacemaker revolver, introduced in the 1960s as part of Colt’s effort to revive the classic single-action design for both collectors and shooters. Mechanically it is the same platform as the original Single Action Army, featuring a solid-frame, single-action only mechanism with a loading gate, fixed sights, and a traditional 6-shot cylinder chambered in calibers like .45 Colt, .44-40, and .357 Magnum. What sets the New Frontier apart is its factory nickel or color-case style frame paired with adjustable target sights, giving it a more modern, range-oriented feel while still preserving the Old West silhouette. Many were produced with a high-polish blued or nickel finish and often featured walnut grips, making them visually striking compared to standard SAA models. Production ran primarily from the 1960s through the 1970s, with later limited runs and custom shop variants appearing afterward.
