Bryant Ridge Co. is pleased to present this double/single-action revolver today for a penny-start auction, this is the Smith & Wesson Model 649 (No-Dash), also known as the .38 Bodyguard Stainless.
 
The Smith & Wesson Model 649 was produced from 1985 to 1998. This particular example was produced in 1985, which was the first year of production.

The Smith & Wesson Model 649, also known as the .38 Bodyguard Stainless, is a double/single-action revolver chambered in .38 Special +P, built on the stainless round butt J-frame with three-screw construction and a shrouded hammer design. This enclosed hammer profile not only preserves the option for single-action fire, but also enhances its snag-resistant characteristics, making it especially well-suited for discreet carry. The Model 649 was the stainless steel version of the Model 49, offered with a 2-inch barrel and a satin stainless steel finish, providing excellent corrosion resistance and long-term durability in regular use. It also features a five-shot fluted cylinder with a nominal length of 1.53 inches, paired with a 1/10-inch serrated ramp front sight and an integral square notch rear sight, offering a practical and durable sighting arrangement. This example is further equipped with genuine stag grips paired with Tyler's T-Grip adapter, which not only improves its appearance but also improves its handling characteristics. A .312" smooth trigger and a .240" shrouded service hammer provide a balance of control and consistent operation, maintaining the revolver’s straightforward and reliable operation. Production spanned from 1985 to 1998, representing Smith & Wesson’s continued development of a lightweight, durable, and snag-resistant revolver optimized for concealed carry and defensive use, while still retaining the classic lines and proven mechanical features that define the J-frame series.
