Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Browning Hi-Power Practical is a distinctive variant of the classic Browning Hi-Power, a design originally conceived by famed firearms designer John Moses Browning and later completed by engineers at FN Herstal after Browning’s death. Introduced in the early 1990s as part of the Mark III generation, the Practical model incorporates several modern updates while retaining the proven single-action operating system and high-capacity double-stack magazine that made the Hi-Power famous. One of the model’s most recognizable features is its striking two-tone finish, consisting of a durable black epoxy-coated slide paired with a contrasting silver-chrome frame that offers enhanced corrosion resistance and a distinctive appearance. Typically equipped with an ambidextrous thumb safety, a ring hammer, and Pachmayr rubber wraparound grips, the Practical was designed to improve control and handling for both defensive and practical shooting applications. Chambered in either 9mm or .40 S&W, the pistol maintains the excellent ergonomics and all-steel construction that have long defined the Hi-Power platform, delivering reliable performance and balanced handling in a configuration that blends traditional craftsmanship with late-20th-century refinements. Many examples were manufactured in Belgium and assembled in Portugal, reflecting the later production practices of FN-produced Hi-Power pistols.
