The Mustang Stainless Steel is the all-stainless variation of Colt’s compact Mustang line, produced from 1990 to 1997. Finished in satin stainless, these models offered increased corrosion resistance and a slightly heftier, more solid feel compared with the Pocketlite alloy versions, appealing to shooters who preferred the durability and polished look of stainless construction. Retaining the Mustang’s short 2.75" barrel, single-action control, and Series ’80 firing-pin safety, the stainless examples combined classic 1911-inspired ergonomics with a practical, low-maintenance finish—qualities that have made them desirable both as reliable concealed-carry pistols and as collectible Mustang variants.

The Colt MKIV/Series ’80 Mustang stainless-steel variation (manufactured 1990–1997) married the compact, pocketable geometry of the Mustang with an all-stainless construction that changed the pistol’s handling, durability, and aesthetic appeal.
