The Pietta LeMat is a modern reproduction of one of the most unusual and recognizable revolver designs of the Civil War era. The original LeMat was developed by Dr. Jean Alexandre LeMat and is best known for its distinctive nine-shot cylinder paired with a separate central smoothbore shotgun barrel, giving the user both revolver firepower and a close-range shot charge in a single handgun. This made the LeMat highly distinctive compared to standard percussion revolvers of the period, and it became especially associated with Confederate use, where examples were prized but produced in limited numbers.
