The Browning 1911-22 is a highly regarded rimfire pistol that stands out because it is built to exactly 85% of the scale of John Browning's original, full-sized .45 ACP military masterpiece. Unlike many competitor .22 LR pistols that simply convert a heavy full-size frame or utilize cheap zinc alloys, Browning engineers this scaled-down rimfire utilizing a lightweight aircraft-grade aluminum alloy frame and an aluminum slide with a steel breech block. This results in an incredibly light weight of around 13 to 14 ounces, making it an excellent training tool for younger shooters or those with smaller hands. Despite its diminished physical size, it retains the identical muscle memory, manual of arms, and functional safety features of a traditional government model—including the grip safety, manual thumb safety, and crisp single-action trigger pull. Typically feeding from a 10-round detachable box magazine, the 1911-22 offers remarkably low recoil, clean cyclic reliability with high-velocity ammunition, and surprising accuracy, making it a premium choice for plinking, target practice, and instructing new enthusiasts on the historic 1911 platform.
