Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
Designed by John Moses Browning, the Auto-5 stands as one of the most successful and legendary auto-loading shotguns in firearms history. The celebrated "Sweet Sixteen" variant occupies a special place among upland hunters and collectors alike, combining the light, fast-handling frame of a 20-gauge with the effective pattern density of a 12-gauge. Fabrique Nationale (FN) in Herstal, Belgium, built these classic long-recoil shotguns with fine hand-engraved scrollwork, a distinctive squared-off receiver profile, and Browning's quick-loading Speed Feed mechanism.
This specific example is an authentic Belgian-made Browning Auto-5 "Sweet Sixteen", manufactured in 1966 and bearing serial number 6S 55696. Configured as a classic upland field gun, it features a 26-inch ventilated rib barrel chambered for 2 3/4" shells, rich blued steel finishes with factory scroll engraving, a gold-plated trigger, and glossy checkered walnut stocks with an original FN Automatic buttplate. The deep blued factory finish and original wood are in clean, attractive overall condition with light handling marks and subtle finish wear consistent with careful field use. Mechanically, the long-recoil action operates smoothly, and the 26-inch bore is clean and mirror-bright.
