The Charter Arms Undercover is a compact, American-made five-shot revolver chambered in .38 Special, first introduced in 1964 and widely regarded as one of the pioneering modern concealed-carry revolvers. Designed by Charter Arms founder Doug McClenahan, the Undercover was built to provide a lightweight, affordable alternative to larger service revolvers while maintaining the reliability and simplicity that revolvers are known for. Most examples feature a 2-inch barrel, fixed sights, an exposed hammer with double-action/single-action operation, and a compact frame that makes the revolver easy to conceal in a pocket, holster, or purse. Unlike many competing revolvers of its era, the Undercover utilized a unique one-piece frame design that helped reduce manufacturing costs while maintaining adequate strength for regular .38 Special use. Depending on the production period, the revolver was offered in blued, stainless steel, and lightweight alloy-frame configurations, with later models rated for modern defensive ammunition, including certain +P loads. The Undercover earned a reputation as a practical working gun favored by off-duty police officers, armed citizens, and anyone seeking a straightforward self-defense firearm without the expense of higher-end Colt or Smith & Wesson revolvers. While it was never considered a luxury handgun, its combination of affordability, compact dimensions, and dependable performance allowed it to remain in production for decades, making it one of Charter Arms’ most successful and recognizable revolver designs.

Any orders placed with magazines that are not compliant with your state, county, or city regulations will not ship with your order.
