Item Description
Bryant Ridge Co. is pleased to present this RARE, LIMITED EDITION set of semi-automatic pistols for a penny-start auction; this is the Colt Custom Shop Ceramic Mustang.
The Colt Custom Shop Ceramic Mustang is an extraordinarily rare and highly desirable collector’s pistol, with only 100 examples produced in this exclusive engraved edition. These pistols represent the first-ever application of ceramic inlay by the Colt Custom Shop, highlighted by an elegant and intricate flower-and-butterfly motif that clearly distinguishes them from all other Mustang variants. Enhancing their artistic and collectible appeal, the right side of the slide and frame is adorned with Class “A” American-style scroll engraving by Colt master engraver Dennis Kies, whose signature “KIES” is discreetly placed beneath the left grip. The fusion of innovative ceramic artistry, master-level engraving, and ultra-limited production firmly positions this Mustang as one of the most distinctive and sought-after offerings ever produced by the Colt Custom Shop.
Further enhancing their collector appeal, these pistols are offered as a matched two-piece consecutive serial-number set, bearing serial numbers HER019 and HER020. Consecutive serial Colt Custom Shop firearms from an ultra-limited 100-piece production are exceptionally scarce, and the opportunity to acquire both examples together represents a rare chance to secure a true paired set from this distinctive Ceramic Mustang series. For advanced collectors, the consecutive numbering adds a significant layer of exclusivity, historical continuity, and long-term desirability, elevating the set well beyond the individual rarity and exceptional craftsmanship of each pistol.
According to the owner, this example is in "New Old Stock" condition, and we see no evidence to suggest otherwise.

Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Colt Mustang is a compact, lightweight semi-automatic pistol originally introduced in the mid-1980s as a modernized, scaled-down evolution of the classic Colt Government .380 design. Chambered in .380 ACP, the Mustang features a single-action, locked-breech operating system rather than the simple blowback common to many pistols of its size, resulting in softer recoil and improved shootability. With its familiar 1911-style controls—thumb safety, slide stop, and crisp single-action trigger—the Mustang offered shooters a concealable pistol that handled and operated like a full-size service handgun. Early production models were offered in blued steel, stainless, and later lightweight aluminum-frame variants, making it a versatile choice for both concealed carry and casual range use.

In practical terms, the Colt Mustang earned a strong reputation for ergonomics, accuracy, and controllability relative to its compact dimensions. Its locked-breech design allows for comfortable shooting with defensive ammunition, while its slim profile makes it well-suited for discreet carry. Though production was discontinued for a time and later briefly revived, original examples remain popular on the secondary market, particularly early and stainless variants. Today, the Colt Mustang is regarded as an influential design that helped shape the modern compact-pistol category, balancing classic Colt styling with practical performance in a small defensive handgun.
