Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
Before founding L.W. Seecamp Co. and revolutionizing mouse-gun concealability with the LWS 32, master gunsmith Ludwig W. Seecamp conceived one of the most ingenious mechanical developments in 1911 history: the Seecamp Double-Action Conversion. Patented in the early 1970s, Seecamp’s system ingeniously transformed John Browning's traditional single-action M1911 platform into a double-action/single-action (DA/SA) defensive handgun. Designed primarily for military and law-enforcement personnel seeking "condition one" double-action readiness without sacrificing the iconic ergonomics of the 1911, the conversion required extensive micro-machining of the frame and trigger guard, adding an external drawbar linkage and an oval "LWS" stamped trigger guard extension. Produced in extremely limited quantities prior to the introduction of factory DA 1911 variants, Seecamp-converted Colt 1911s are revered among custom arms collectors as historic engineering marvels.
This magnificent example is built upon an authentic Colt Combat Commander chambered in .45 ACP, bearing serial number 70BS85789 stamped along the underside of the frame dustcover. The pistol exhibits the classic Seecamp conversion traits, including the oval "LWS" trademark stamped directly on the forward trigger guard bow extension and the custom double-action trigger assembly w/ external drawbar linkage. The steel frame and slide retain their original factory-style dual-tone blued finish w/ high-polished slide flats and matte satin contours. The roll marks remain exceptionally crisp, including the iconic Rampant Colt on the left slide panel and "COLT'S COMBAT COMMANDER MODEL" on the right. Outfitted w/ factory checkered walnut grips displaying gold Rampant Colt medallions, the double-action trigger cycle is exceptionally smooth, the single-action break is sharp, lockup is rock-solid, and the 4.25-inch barrel bore remains mirror-bright w/ razor-sharp rifling. An ultra-rare, high-grade Seecamp-converted Colt Commander that represents a crown jewel for advanced 1911 and custom combat pistol collectors.
