The Colt MK IV Series 80 Government Model is a classic full-size semi-automatic pistol that represents a significant evolution of the iconic M1911 pistol design, produced by Colt's Manufacturing Company beginning in the early 1980s. Retaining the traditional 5-inch barrel, single-action trigger, and all-steel construction of the original Government Model, the Series 80 introduced a key internal safety enhancement: a firing pin block system that prevents the firing pin from moving forward unless the trigger is fully depressed. This addition improved drop safety and made the pistol more suitable for modern carry requirements without significantly altering its external appearance or manual of arms.
