Item Description
Bryant Ridge Co. is pleased to present this semi-automatic pistol for a penny-start auction, this is the Colt MKIV/Series 70 Government.
The Colt MK IV/Series 70 Government Model in factory two-tone E-Nickel and blued finish is a striking and highly collectible variation of one of the most iconic 1911 pistols ever produced. Manufactured by Colt's Manufacturing Company during the golden era of commercial Colt production, this version combined the elegance of electroless nickel plating with contrasting blued controls and components, giving the pistol a refined appearance that stood out from standard blued Government Models. Chambered in .45 ACP and built on the classic full-size steel-frame 1911 platform, the Series 70 featured Colt’s well-known collet-style Accurizor barrel bushing system intended to improve accuracy while maintaining the crisp single-action trigger and smooth handling characteristics that made the Government Model legendary.

Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Colt MK IV/Series 70 Government Model is one of the most iconic commercial versions of the legendary 1911-pattern pistol, widely admired for combining classic styling, excellent craftsmanship, and enhanced accuracy features that helped define the golden era of Colt commercial handguns. Manufactured by Colt's Manufacturing Company beginning in 1970, the Series 70 Government Model was chambered primarily in .45 ACP and built on the full-size steel-frame 1911 platform originally designed by John Browning. One of the defining characteristics of the Series 70 was the introduction of the “collet” barrel bushing system, also known as the Accurizor bushing, which used flexible finger-like segments designed to create a tighter barrel-to-slide fit and improve mechanical accuracy without requiring expensive hand fitting. The pistol retained the traditional single-action, short-recoil operating system and featured the classic 5-inch barrel, seven-round magazine, grip safety, thumb safety, and slim steel frame that made the Government Model famous worldwide. Most examples featured polished blued finishes, checkered walnut grips with Colt medallions, fixed combat sights, and the clean lines associated with pre-modernized 1911 pistols before the widespread adoption of accessory rails and tactical enhancements. In practical use, the MK IV/Series 70 earned a strong reputation for smooth trigger pulls, excellent practical accuracy, and reliable operation with standard-pressure .45 ACP ammunition. Shooters especially appreciated the pistol’s refined balance, crisp single-action trigger, and all-steel construction, which contributed to mild recoil characteristics and outstanding shootability.

The Series 70 also became highly popular as a base platform for custom gunsmithing, competition modifications, and defensive carry builds because of its traditional internal design and lack of later firing-pin safety systems that some enthusiasts believed complicated trigger feel. During the 1970s and early 1980s, the pistol represented one of the premier commercial 1911s available in the United States and became deeply associated with target shooting, law enforcement, and civilian defensive use. Although Colt later introduced the Series 80 firing-pin safety system and newer production models, many shooters continued to prefer the simpler mechanics and traditional feel of the Series 70 design. Today, the Colt MK IV/Series 70 Government Model is regarded as one of the finest classic commercial 1911 pistols ever produced, admired by collectors and enthusiasts for its historical significance, elegant craftsmanship, smooth shooting characteristics, and enduring connection to the classic American .45 ACP Government Model tradition.
